Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech has ranked first nationally and 1,392nd globally in the 2025 Nature Index, which measures research contributions based on publications in 145 leading journals in the natural and health sciences.
The university published 58 papers with a contribution share of 3.17%, leading Morocco in both volume and impact. It ranked 1st nationally in physical sciences (1,132nd globally) and 2nd in chemistry, with a strong focus on high-energy and applied physics, particularly molecular physics, where it contributed 49 papers.
Following Cadi Ayyad were Mohamed I University in Oujda (1,507th globally), Mohamed V University in Rabat (1,587th), and Ibn Zohr University in Agadir (1,597th), despite its smaller output.
Cadi Ayyad’s research was 95.5% internationally co-authored, underlining its global engagement. Morocco’s six listed universities placed among the top 2,000 worldwide, as China and the U.S. continued to dominate, with China significantly widening its lead in high-impact scientific output.
