The city’s vibrant startup ecosystem, backed by incubators and accelerators, was identified as a major factor in drawing multinational tech companies seeking to expand their presence in the region.
The 40 potential emerging markets were selected based on a variety of factors, including a strong culture of startups, scale-ups, and incubators that support entrepreneurial growth as well as government incentives and policy initiatives that enhance the attractiveness of investment.
Other key factors include favorable linkages with parts of the local economy that foster innovation, quality of life attributes that attract mobile tech talent and digital nomads, and strong education systems with industry partnerships that produce skilled tech professionals.
The list included cities from the Middle East and Africa such as Dubai (UAE), Accra (Ghana), Cairo (Egypt), and Johannesburg (South Africa). It also featured other cities from around the world, including Las Vegas (USA), Lille (France), Leipzig (Germany), and Fukuoka (Japan), among others.
