Morocco and UN Tourism signed a financial agreement Thursday in Madrid to establish the first UN Tourism Thematic Office on Innovation for Africa in Rabat.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the 123rd Executive Council session of UN Tourism.
Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor and UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili formalized the deal, with Morocco’s ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, in attendance.
The agreement sets out administrative terms and mutual commitments, following the January 2025 host country agreement.
The office will advance UN Tourism’s 2030 Agenda for Africa, aligning with King Mohammed VI’s vision for unified African action.
It aims to position tourism as a key driver of development through innovation, leveraging Morocco’s role as a continental tourism and innovation hub.
The office is expected to strengthen cooperation among African states and support the socio-economic transformation of tourism destinations across the continent.
