Moroccan police have detained eight individuals in the coastal city of Agadir in connection with an alleged exam cheating operation during the national Baccalaureate exams, the public prosecutor’s office said on Thursday.
Two candidates were caught attempting to cheat during an Arabic language test at an examination center, with electronic devices found in their possession, the prosecutor at the Agadir Court of Appeal said in a statement.
Acting on the incident, investigators arrested five more individuals at a nearby apartment who were allegedly in communication with the candidates. Police seized a computer, mobile phones, and documents showing suspicious financial transfers, the statement said.
An eighth suspect was arrested at a café close to the exam center, also carrying electronic tools used to facilitate cheating, it added.
All suspects have been placed in police custody pending further investigation, while judicial police have been instructed to continue inquiries and identify any additional individuals involved.
The arrests are part of broader preventive measures deployed by security services to combat exam fraud during the nationwide Baccalaureate exams.
