Police in Marrakech arrested on Tuesday two French-Moroccan nationals, aged 28 and 36, for their alleged involvement in a hit-and-run traffic accident involving public drunkenness and refusal to obey police orders, according to a security source.

The arrested driver had caused a traffic accident, injuring a road user before fleeing the scene, and resisting arrest by refusing to obey police orders, in his car, which he was recklessly driving in the alleys of Marrakech’s old medina, endangering people and property, the same source states, adding that these criminal acts have been caught on a video recording that went viral on social media.

Police intervention led to the arrest of the driver in question and his companion, who were severely drunk, placing them in police custody at the disposal of the judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with a view to clarifying the circumstances of this case and determining the true motives for these criminal acts, the same source concludes.
