Morocco's Democratic Confederation of Labor withdraws from pro-Palestinian Workers' Front over territorial dispute

The Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) has officially ended its affiliation with the Unified Workers’ Front for the Defense of the Palestinian People, citing concerns over Morocco’s territorial integrity.

The union had announced its suspension from the group in March, but its executive bureau confirmed over the weekend that it now considers itself permanently withdrawn, ruling out any possibility of rejoining.

The dispute centers around the front’s logo, which the CDT says undermines Morocco’s territorial sovereignty. Although the workers’ front attempted to modify the logo, CDT leaders said the changes — which involved placing a helmet over the map — were insufficient and did not amount to a clear correction.

“We are no longer members of the front,” said Younes Feraachin, a member of the CDT executive bureau, in a statement to Hespress AR. “The decision to withdraw is final.”

Fellow executive bureau member Abdelkader El Amri added that although the CDT remains committed to supporting the Palestinian cause, the conditions for continued membership in the front no longer exist. “There was an offense to our territorial integrity, and we took our stand,” he said.

The CDT’s departure contrasts with the position of other Moroccan organizations that continue to be affiliated with the front, including the Solidarity Organization, the Militant Current, the Democratic Unions Federation (FSD), ATTAC Morocco, and the Unified Socialist Party, among others.

The Unified Workers’ Front was established in September 2024 as a platform for labor groups to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.
