Morocco’s poultry sector recorded a significant boost in 2024, with exports of day-old broiler chicks rising to 1.735 million units, up from 770,000 units the previous year, according to data from the Interprofessional Federation of the Poultry Sector (FISA).

FISA reported that the industry produced 486 million broiler chicks and 15.1 million locally produced turkey chicks in 2024. Meanwhile, Morocco imported approximately 2.68 million turkey chicks, and the production of layer chicks reached 14.6 million units.

The figures also showed an increase in poultry meat production, reaching 582,000 tons of chicken meat compared to 560,000 tons in 2023. Turkey meat production totaled 152,000 tons.

Poultry meat consumption per capita rose as well, reaching 20.9 kilograms in 2024, up from 20.6 kilograms in 2023. Egg consumption also grew, with an average of 171 eggs per person compared to 169 the previous year.

On the export side, Morocco shipped 61.179 million hatching eggs in 2024, up from 58.398 million in 2023.

FISA emphasized that domestic production fully meets national demand and has the capacity to export significant volumes of poultry products, particularly to African countries, as well as to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

According to FISA, investments in the poultry sector have reached 14.3 billion dirhams, with annual revenues estimated at 45 billion dirhams. The sector provides approximately 515,000 jobs nationwide.

Founded in October 1995, FISA is a professional organization representing all major branches of Morocco’s poultry industry.
