Police in the southern Moroccan city of Inezgane arrested a 20-year-old man late Thursday night in connection with a violent assault on a public bus driver and the subsequent theft of ticket revenues by accomplices, authorities said.
The incident unfolded after the suspect reportedly became enraged when the bus driver refused to let him board. He later assaulted the driver by hurling a stone at his face, causing visible injuries. In the chaos that followed, two other passengers allegedly took advantage of the situation to steal cash from the bus’s ticket collection box.
A portion of the incident was captured on video and circulated on social media, drawing widespread attention and condemnation.
Swift police investigations led to the identification and arrest of the primary suspect shortly after the incident occurred. Authorities confirmed that he has been placed in custody pending further investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
Law enforcement officials are continuing their search for the other suspects involved in the theft. The investigation aims to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack and to bring all those responsible to justice.
