Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, and Ahmed El Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, signed Tuesday two framework agreements.

The first focuses on providing agricultural authorities with meteorological and climate data, while the second addresses the joint management of the Saïs groundwater aquifer.

These agreements, signed during the high-level international conference opening the 17th International Agricultural Exhibition in Meknes under the theme “Water Management for Sustainable and Resilient Agriculture,” aim to enhance cooperation between the two ministries in weather data sharing and climate forecasting.

This collaboration will directly benefit Moroccan farmers by optimizing water resource management in the face of environmental challenges.

The second agreement specifically targets the over-exploited Saïs aquifer, ensuring joint management by the two ministries to provide irrigation water for 30,000 hectares in the region.

Baraka emphasized that this initiative would help curb excessive water extraction and ensure more sustainable management of the region’s resources.

Both ministries highlighted that these agreements demonstrate a shared commitment to sustainable water management in agriculture, adapting to climate change, and integrating environmental, economic, and social needs into a unified strategy.
