Since its independence, the Gambia has always maintained the same unambiguous position in favor of the Moroccanness of the Sahara, said, Thursday in Rabat, Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara.
Speaking at a press briefing following talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita, the diplomat said that his country “had the honor and pleasure of being the first country to open a consulate in Dakhla.”
Given the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Gambia could not install its consul, who served as ambassador to Morocco and France, but he will be in Dakhla next week, the minister said.
For his part, Bourita noted that the Gambia has always taken an unambiguous position on the Moroccanness of the Sahara, recalling the commitment of President Adama Barrow, with the active support of Tangara, in regional and international fora in favor of Morocco’s diplomatic battles, particularly within the African Union.
During their talks, the two officials signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the area of diplomatic training as well as a joint declaration of intent on cooperation in the field of Health.
The declaration of intent provides for the consolidation of cooperation between the two countries in the health sector and sets out the bilateral cooperation actions to be developed in this field.
These actions focus in particular on building the capacities of health professionals in various fields and on sharing expertise.
