The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has decided to halt the selection process for candidates to implement the high-voltage Dakhla-Casablanca electrical connection under the BOOT (Build–Own–Operate–Transfer) model. Instead, ONEE is focusing on contractors already engaged in the project’s EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) component.
After multiple delays, the BOOT tender process has been officially closed, with ONEE prioritizing the execution of this 1,400 km, 3 GW high-voltage line through selected EPC firms. Five international companies—GE Vernova (USA), Siemens Energy (Germany), Power China SEPCO1 (China), TBEA (China), and Larsen & Toubro (India)—have already been shortlisted for the project, confirming its feasibility and market interest.
The connection is set to be commissioned in two phases: the first 1,500 MW segment will have its timeline determined in the final tender, while the second, initially scheduled for 2028, is now expected in 2029.
Additionally, ONEE has awarded topographic studies to Géo-Amane, covering the Oued Lakraâ-Tan-Tan (600 km) and Tan-Tan-Marrakech (500 km) sections. This study will determine optimal corridors while minimizing environmental and infrastructural impacts.
