Morocco accounted for over 3% of total Ukrainian imports processed through Odesa’s customs clearance zone in January, according to data released by the region’s customs authority.

Turkey emerged as the top supplier, representing 25% of total imports passing through Odesa’s customs. It was followed by Australia with 14%, while Georgia and Egypt each accounted for 10%.

Other major trading partners included China, Bulgaria, Romania, Azerbaijan, Morocco, and Kazakhstan, with the latter two each contributing 3% of total imports.

The report highlighted that fertilizers were the most imported product, making up 24% of the total imports. This reflects Ukraine’s preparations for the upcoming agricultural season.

Steel followed with 12%, while salt accounted for 8%. Electric generators made up 6% of imports, while citrus fruits and coal each represented 5%.

The continued demand for citrus fruits and rice indicates that Ukrainian consumers’ dietary preferences remain unchanged despite global market fluctuations.

Trade between Rabat and Kyiv has been growing significantly in recent years, with bilateral trade volume reaching approximately $500 million in 2023. Morocco has historically been one of Ukraine’s largest grain importers, while Ukraine imports various Moroccan agricultural products, particularly citrus fruits.

This increasing trade activity highlights Morocco’s expanding role in international supply chains, especially within Eastern Europe, and reinforces its strategic economic ties with Ukraine.
