The British Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth Development announced the appointment of Alex Binfield as the new ambassador to Morocco, succeeding Simon Martin. Binfield is expected to take office in August of this year.
Binfield, who joined the British Foreign Office in the late 1990s, has held several key roles. He served as an analyst for Middle East affairs at the Cabinet Office from 2005 to 2006, and later led the Syria Unit at the Foreign Office from 2013 to 2015.
His diplomatic career also includes positions as Head of the China Section and Head of the International Human Resources Department within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Binfield served as Deputy Ambassador to Afghanistan and most recently led the Iran Unit until last year.
