The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) seized parrots from a tour operator in Chefchaouen due to the lack of required permits and documentation proving their legal acquisition, violating Morocco’s Law No. 29.05 (2011), the agency said in a statement.
This law regulates the trade of endangered species, including parrots, which are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
The parrots were confiscated after it was found that the operator did not comply with regulations aimed at preventing illegal wildlife trade.
