In 2024, import-export data on trade exchanges between Morocco and China emerged from the database of the General Administration of Customs in the People’s Republic of China.
Morocco remains committed to reducing its trade deficit with its strategic partner in East Asia, with many records being broken in this regard.
The data clearly highlights that trade exchanges have grown steadily each year since His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s historic visit to China in May 2016, opening new opportunities for imports and exports.
Trade between Morocco and China has shown gradual growth, reaching approximately $9 billion USD (8,820,193,069), with Moroccan exports reaching an all-time high of about $1.3 billion USD (1,298,495,735).
With nearly $600 million (USD 578,716,543), electronic products such as integrated circuits and power distribution panels continued to top Morocco’s export list. Base metals and their products, including refined copper, copper-zinc alloy (brass), aluminum alloy, and others, ranked second with $330 million (USD 333,102,077).
Traditional Moroccan minerals such as copper, zinc, and lead ores showed steady growth, reaching nearly $250 million (USD 244,097,422), placing third.
Textile and leather goods followed in fourth place, valued at approximately $80 million (USD 78,112,277). The diversification strategy that Morocco’s economy has pursued under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Preserve Him, along with the increase in Chinese investments in Morocco, are the main drivers of the growth in Moroccan non-energy exports over the past decade.
Reversing the trade imbalance with China is now more achievable than ever, further strengthening the mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations at both ends of the Silk Road.
