Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane linked the raging wildfires in the United States to “a divine response to U.S. President Donald Trump.”

Speaking at a party seminar discussing proposed amendments to Morocco’s Family Code, Benkirane stated, “God’s anger preceded Trump’s call to hell, forcing him to search for a way to extinguish the hellish fires in his country.”

Speakingon the Family Code reform, Benkirane said that “the current European situation, marked by a lack of family and familial solidarity, is influencing Morocco.”

“Some Moroccans have no problem with allowing their daughter’s friend to come over to their home.”

Benkirane also questioned Morocco’s future guarantees, asking, “Who will defend the children of divorcees and drug addicts?” He referenced the historical context of women’s rights in Europe, explaining that “European women were denied rights before World War II, and afterward, they demanded equality, which has now escalated to sexual equality.” He argued that “this equality is actually detrimental to women,” urging his party members to prepare for similar developments in Morocco.

He further warned against adopting the Western model, stating, “Equality in the West has reached an absurd level, where men no longer know whether they are men, and anyone opposing gender reassignment is punished.”

Regarding polygamy, Benkirane dismissed it as not a problem in Morocco, attributing its current visibility to the demands for equality.

In its memo on the Family Code amendments, which Hespress obtained, the PJD expressed concerns over recognizing the wife’s household work as a financial contribution to the family’s wealth. The party warned this could lead to turning the family into a space for disputes and calculations, arguing that the proposal could have severe consequences for marriage.

The memo also addressed the joint legal guardianship and custody proposals, emphasizing the need for clarity to avoid manipulation and proposing that the weekly visit duration be extended to include an overnight stay with the other parent.

On the topic of marital home proposals, the PJD criticized the potential impact on inheritance laws, calling for further clarification to protect the rights of all heirs. The party also expressed concerns over the inclusion of “modernist” language in the reforms, such as defining “pleasure” as an insult to women.
