An investigative judge at the Casablanca Court of Appeals is reviewing a request from the defense of Kamil B., the main suspect in a high-profile case involving allegations of rape against a French lawyer during a party attended by prominent businessmen’s sons.
The defense has requested confrontations between the complainant, the accused, and witnesses in the presence of the public prosecutor. The request, still under review, seeks to demonstrate a lack of evidence supporting the complainant’s claims of rape and drugging, according to sources familiar with the case.
Defense attorneys submitted a list of witnesses to the judge, some of whom reportedly denied the rape allegations. One witness claimed the complainant had consensual sexual relations during the party, which was held at the suspect’s luxury villa in Ain Diab. The defense also pointed to independent medical tests allegedly showing the complainant had used cocaine and engaged in consensual activity.
Witnesses testified that the complainant acted erratically under the influence of alcohol and drugs, allegedly making inappropriate advances toward party attendees. Audio evidence submitted to the court reportedly suggests that two of the accused advised the complainant’s fiancé, who later withdrew his complaint, to avoid joining her due to concerns about her behavior.
The complainant, however, has maintained that she was drugged with GHB, denies any consensual relations, and claims to be undergoing psychological treatment to address the alleged assault. She has also denied being a habitual user of alcohol or cocaine, despite test results cited by the defense.
The case has sparked controversy, with defense attorneys expressing concerns about perceived bias against their clients due to their families’ wealth and social status. They also refuted allegations that financial offers were made to persuade the complainant to drop the case.
The defense accused the complainant of attempting to exploit her nationality to cast doubt on the fairness of Moroccan judicial and security institutions, citing statements made during French police proceedings.
Moroccan authorities have yet to announce a decision on the defense’s request, and the investigation remains ongoing.
