The recent fatal truck accident in the Hay Mohammadi district of Casablanca has reignited calls for stricter regulations on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city center. A truck ran over pedestrians at the “Ibn Tashfin” tram station, resulting in three deaths and one serious injury.
The incident has prompted both citizens and civil society organizations to urge local authorities to impose stricter controls on the entry of trucks, especially during the day when traffic congestion is at its peak.
Civil society groups have emphasized that these heavy vehicles not only contribute to severe traffic jams but also cause deadly road accidents on a daily basis.
Moulay Ahmed Afailal, a member of the Casablanca municipal council, confirmed that a decision has been made to restrict heavy trucks from entering the city center during peak traffic hours.
The deputy mayor of Casablanca explained that, under the new regulations, large trucks will be banned from passing through the city center during rush hours. He added that further measures are being studied to limit truck access in other high-traffic areas from morning until late evening.
It was previously decided to allow trucks to enter the city center only during the night, primarily for the purpose of accessing and leaving the Casablanca port.
