The defense team of Moroccan YouTuber Aicha S., known as “Houyam Star,” has called on the court to reject the standing of two associations as civil parties in the high-profile case involving charges of public indecency and child abuse. The influencer, along with her husband, is being prosecuted following multiple complaints.
During Wednesday’s hearing at the Ain Sebaa Criminal Court in Casablanca, the defense argued that some associations are leveraging the case for personal vendettas. They also requested that the court summon the head of one association to answer questions about its involvement in the case.
The defense raised procedural concerns, asking the court to exclude the preamble of the police investigation report. They alleged that the defendant’s rights were violated during questioning, as she was not informed of the charges against her or her right to remain silent.
The court approved the prosecutor’s request for a medical report on the defendant’s two children. It deferred procedural objections raised by the defense for consideration during the trial’s substantive discussions. The next hearing is scheduled for Friday.
Aicha S., who gained notoriety on social media under the name “Houyam Star,” is accused of multiple offenses, including child abuse, defamation, public indecency, and setting a bad example. The charges also cite her alleged use of indecent language and behavior online, physical assault on her children, and statements expressing her conversion to Christianity and renunciation of Islam.
Her arrest followed complaints regarding her controversial social media appearances and alleged abusive behavior. Judicial authorities deepened their investigation before referring her and her husband to court in detention.
The case has sparked widespread attention and debates on freedom of expression, child welfare, and the responsibilities of influencers on social media platforms.
