Iraqi National Security Advisor, Qasim Al-Araji reiterated today Iraq’s firm position in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity concerning the Sahara issue.
In a joint press conference with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, al-Araji emphasized that Iraq’s stance remains steadfast in fully supporting Morocco’s territorial unity on the Sahara matter.
The Iraqi National Security Advisor also praised the level of relations between Iraq and Morocco, describing them as “strategic and historic,” stemming from the strong bond between the two peoples.
Bourita commended King Mohammed VI’s support for “Iraq’s stability and prosperity.” He noted that “Iraq will never forget the Moroccan people’s unwavering support throughout history,” recalling that Iraq was the first Arab country to recognize Morocco’s independence in 1956.
The Moroccan Foreign Minister emphasized that relations between the two countries are now built on a “clear foundation, especially in terms of political dialogue.”
During their discussions, the two sides addressed several regional issues, including the situations in Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon. Bourita pointed out that “both countries share similar views on most of these matters, particularly the belief that crises must be resolved through dialogue.”
He also highlighted that the upcoming Arab Summit in Iraq will provide an opportunity to address all these issues, adding that “we support all the preparations Iraq is making for the summit.”
He noted that “the Arab world is going through an important phase, and the Baghdad summit will be a crucial step in keeping up with these transformations.”
