The First Lady of Mauritania, Mariem Bint Dah, wife of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, recently underwent surgery at the military hospital in Rabat, Morocco. In an official statement, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Mauritanian people for their overwhelming support and well-wishes, which she said greatly boosted her morale during her recovery.

The statement confirmed her health is steadily improving, with a full recovery expected. Mariem Bint Dah also thanked those who visited or assisted her during this difficult time.

President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani traveled to Morocco on Wednesday evening for a “private visit,” as reported by Mauritanian media. While the specifics of his trip were not disclosed, it is believed he went to Morocco primarily to be with his wife, who is receiving care from a highly regarded medical team.
