A doctor and a trainee nurse were arrested Monday evening at Ibn Baja Regional Hospital in Taza for allegedly receiving a bribe of 1,400 dirhams (approximately $140), according to Moroccan judicial authorities.
The arrests followed a sting operation by the Regional Judicial Police Department, supervised by the public prosecutor’s office. Authorities acted on a complaint filed by a citizen through the “green number” hotline, a service established by Morocco’s Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to report bribery and corruption. The complainant alleged that the suspects had extorted him in exchange for a healthcare service.
The suspects remain in custody pending further investigation, and they are expected to appear before the competent public prosecutor’s office. Judicial police are continuing their inquiries into the case.
