The management of Ittihad Tanger football club announced that funeral prayers for the late Abdelatif Akhrif will take place on Sunday, December 15, following the midday Duhr prayer.
In an official statement shared on its social media platforms, the club indicated that this timing was chosen in coordination with Akhrif’s family to allow players, staff, and supporters to attend the ceremony and pay their respects.
According to earlier reports by Hesport, Moroccan authorities received Akhrif’s body on Thursday at a border checkpoint near the city of Oujda.
Akhrif had been missing since July 6 following a tragic boat excursion off the coast of Tetouan involving five members of Ittihad Tanger. While three of the individuals were rescued, Akhrif’s body was discovered on the Algerian coastline a month after the incident.
Efforts to repatriate his remains were only completed recently. The fate of another club member, Salman El Harraq, who also went missing during the accident, remains unknown.
