Thai authorities have sought assistance from Interpol to apprehend a Moroccan man accused of murdering his girlfriend, a prominent transgender woman, in Chiang Mai before fleeing the country, according to the Bangkok Post.
The victim, identified as Thitikarn Dulikanon, professionally known as Dr. Sammy, was discovered deceased in her third-floor bedroom at the Dr. Sammy Clinic on December 6. Investigators reported that bruising on her neck suggested she had been strangled. Her body was found by a housekeeper during routine cleaning and was subsequently sent to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for an autopsy.
Authorities have named 30-year-old Moroccan national Bilal Chefinu as the primary suspect. CCTV footage revealed that Chefinu and Dulikanon entered the clinic together on December 4. He was later seen leaving alone in Dulikanon’s black Toyota Camry, which was abandoned near Chiang Mai Airport. Chefinu reportedly boarded AirAsia flight FD515 to Hong Kong early on December 7, just hours after the alleged crime.
Further investigation uncovered a red elastic cord believed to have been used in the strangulation. The cord was found hanging on a clothes rack in the clinic’s bathroom. Dulikanon’s body was discovered covered with a blanket and towel, and investigators estimated she had been deceased for approximately three days.
Thai police suspect the murder stemmed from a personal dispute between the couple. An arrest warrant for Chefinu was issued following a comprehensive review of surveillance footage and other evidence.
Authorities are collaborating with Interpol to locate and extradite Chefinu, who is believed to have fled Thailand shortly after the incident. The case has drawn significant attention in Thailand due to Dulikanon’s prominence as a transgender woman and medical professional.
