The Court of First Instance in Ain Sebaa, Casablanca, has postponed the trial of Reda Bouzidi, known on social media by the nickname “Oueld Chinwia,” until December 2nd.

The delay was requested by the lawyer who registered to represent the defendant in order to review the case file and prepare his defense.

The hearing today saw a large presence of citizens and members of the families of both defendants (Reda El Bouzidi and a woman known as “Bent Abbas”) who attended to follow the proceedings.

During the previous session, the defendant insisted on his right to defense and to appoint a lawyer, despite many lawyers refusing to represent him. Lawyer Mohamed Belkadioui then registered to defend the defendant, who is currently in pretrial detention.

In a statement to Hespress, lawyer Belkadioui confirmed that his decision to represent the defendant was based on his personal conviction, as there was no formal complaint from any lawyer against him.

He added that the legal profession, based on the oath taken by lawyers, obliges them to defend anyone, regardless of the crime committed.

Belkadioui further explained that after consulting with the defendant’s family, he informed the head of the Casablanca Bar Association, and that the head had no objection to his representation in the case.

The lawyer emphasized that the head of the Casablanca Bar Association supports the right to defense and does not see any issue with Belkadioui’s involvement, as it falls within the scope of a lawyer’s duties.

Belkadioui also pointed out that had he not taken on the case, the defendant would have been assigned a public defender due to his insistence on his right to defense.

Belkadioui expressed hope for a reconciliation between the two families in order to close the case, in which his client is charged with insulting law enforcement, slander, defamation, and public humiliation.

It is worth noting that the defendant was presented before the public prosecutor in a state of release, along with his mother, siblings, and another woman, facing charges of slander, invasion of privacy, spreading false claims via digital platforms to defame and attack others, disrupting law enforcement, and threatening to commit a felony.

The public prosecutor ordered the arrest of the controversial Moroccan YouTuber along with the woman known on TikTok as “Bent Abbas.”
