Baitas: Morocco to import 20,000 tons of red meat by end of 2024

“Morocco is expected to import a total of 20,000 tons of red meat by the end of the year,” announced government spokesman Mustapha Baitas confirmed during the weekly press briefing.

He emphasized that the imports will include both frozen and fresh meat,” and stressed that the process is carefully regulated, with strict requirements.

Baitas revealed that “Morocco has processed import requests for approximately 10,000 tons of red meat as of today.”

Regarding the housing aid program, the government spokesperson defended the program, saying, “it’s too early to evaluate this program, as it’s newly launched.”

He emphasized that “once the government assesses the program’s progress and demand, they will provide all necessary clarifications.”

Baítas reaffirmed that “the housing aid program is a new initiative aimed at establishing a direct link between the government and citizens, simplifying the acquisition process through digitization, unlike the old method which relied on reducing taxes for real estate developers.”

In a different vein, the government spokesperson “denied cutting the budget for the National Authority for Integrity, Prevention, and Anti-Corruption in the 2025 Finance Bill.”

He clarified, “It’s true that the budget for this authority has decreased, but that’s expected. When a new institution is first established, its budget is typically higher to cover initial costs like setting up offices and purchasing equipment,” explaining that over time, the budget goes down relatively.

Yet, Baitas emphasized that “this authority is a constitutional body and must carry out its duties in full compliance with the laws that govern it.”

He underscored, “no one intervened to reduce the budget for the ‘National Authority for Integrity, Prevention, and Anti-Corruption.”

Baïtas also emphasized that the government’s inflation-reducing measures are designed to support all segments of society.

He clarified that “these measures are delivered to citizens. For example, a citizen in a vulnerable situation finds themselves benefiting from direct social support. If they are an employee, they benefit from the outcomes of social dialogue. And if they are employed in specific sectors that intersect with government efforts in productive areas such as agriculture, they also benefit.”

The government spokesperson added that “those who do not directly benefit from these programs still benefit from the compensation fund, which continues to subsidize a range of consumer goods, including electricity. Without government intervention, electricity bills would have increased.
