Moroccan producer RedOne recently shared insights about FC Barcelona’s young star, Lamine Yamal, who is currently excelling with Spain’s national team.
RedOne revealed in the set of U Radio that Yamal, 17, was close to joining the Moroccan national team but was swayed by his mother to play for Spain instead.
The producer, who once offered to represent Yamal, said the player was initially set to sign with his agency but ultimately chose Jorge Mendes. Despite Yamal’s strong ties to Morocco through his father, it was his mother who pushed for him to represent Spain.
Before making his decision, Yamal was eligible for three countries—Morocco, Spain, and Equatorial Guinea—due to his mixed heritage. He eventually chose Spain, where he’s now been shining, including winning Euro 2024.
