The speech delivered by King Mohammed VI on the 49th Green March anniversary reaffirms Morocco’s firm and clear position on the Sahara issue, Spanish academic, Rafael Esparza Machín, said.

The Royal Speech marked a “fundamental distinction” between a historical reality, represented by Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, and the theological theses in support of a separatist vision unfounded in reality, the expert in Maghreb issues said.

He also told MAP that the Sovereign’s speech showcased that the separatist theses are stagnant and obsolete, hailing the realistic perspective pointed towards development, drawn by the Sovereign.

“It is an undeniable reality, pushed by a large international support and a growing recognition of the relevance of the Moroccan autonomy plan.”

Highlighting the development momentum in the Southern provinces, driven by the major modernization projects initiated under the impetus of His Majesty the King, the expert noted that this momentum had been injected into several socio-economic sectors.

“This progress transformed the Moroccan Sahara into an integrated and sustainable development model,” he added, describing these transformations as essential vectors of prosperity for the entire Sahel-Saharan region.

The initiative launched by the King to facilitate access to the Atlantic Ocean for Sahel states is further proof of Morocco’s clear commitment to regional stability and international cooperation, he said, adding that this approach embodies the spirit of partnership and shared development adopted by the Kingdom.
