The Fes police department reported that it reviewed a video circulating on social media, featuring a foreign woman claiming to be a victim of a verbally abusive incident allegedly rooted in religious racism.
To clarify the situation, the Fes police stated in a press release received by Hespress that “this incident dates back to September 6, when a tourist holding a Portuguese passport had a dispute with a local woman and her relatives from the Moroccan diaspora due to a misunderstanding regarding suspicions of them being filmed without consent.”
The statement added that “the aforementioned tourist contacted the local tourism police in the Talâa Sghira area of Fes, explaining that she had been verbally attacked by a Moroccan family due to suspicions they had about her filming them without their approval. However, she did not wish to pursue legal action or file a formal complaint with the relevant police department.”
The statement emphasized that “while the Fes police are keen to clarify the background and context of the video, they affirm that the disagreement was incidental, stemming from suspicions about filming individuals without consent, and that there was no racial or discriminatory motive based on religion or belief, contrary to what has been misrepresented.”
