Promoting cooperation between Morocco and Korea in the field of rail transport and logistics was at the core of a meeting, on Friday in Rabat, between Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, and Korea’s Vice-Minister for Transport of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Baek Won-kug.
At the meeting, the two parties discussed ways of promoting cooperation between both countries, particularly in the rail transport sector.
In a statement to the press, Abdeljalil stressed the importance of Morocco’s transport infrastructure projects, carried out under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
He also recalled Morocco’s strategic position in the region, featuring the rail projects steered by the Moroccan Railway Office (ONCF).
“As Korea is home to leading companies in this field, we aspire to broaden our exchange of expertise to benefit from its experience, particularly as regards future intelligent mobility and transport,” said Abdeljalil.
The government official also expressed his hope that these discussions will lead to a fruitful partnership, with the forthcoming signing of an agreement in this field.
For his part, Korean vice-minister praised Morocco’s expertise in applied infrastructure research, underlining the importance of the project to acquire railway rolling stock, including high-speed trains (TGV).
“Building on the mutual trust between our two countries, Korea is committed to supporting job creation, public financing and technology transfer, in collaboration with Korean companies,” he declared.
He also hoped to extend bilateral cooperation beyond the rail sector to include all transport and logistics sectors. “We will actively pursue this collaboration in the future,” he maintained.
This meeting follows on from the meeting held last July in Rabat between Abdeljalil and the Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Sangwoo Park.
