In a significant step towards modernizing public services and boosting the digital economy, Morocco unveiled its “Digital Morocco 2030” strategy on Wednesday, featuring key discussions on enhancing e-government services and leveraging digital technologies across sectors.
Mohammed Sadik, Minister of Agriculture, highlighted the crucial role of digitalization in public services, citing FAO projections that over 70% of agricultural growth by 2050 will come from digital techniques.
He noted that adopting these technologies could increase farmers’ incomes by 20% to 50%. Sadik emphasized the importance of Morocco’s Generation Green 2020-2030 strategy, which aims to digitize at least 20 agricultural sectors, improving services for stakeholders.
Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, shared his ministry’s commitment to digital initiatives, mentioning that all Moroccan highways are now fiber-optic equipped.
He detailed ongoing projects, including PortNet, which has streamlined port access and customs processes, and a new application for managing drilling permits in the Chaouia region.
Baraka also highlighted the ministry’s open data efforts, providing daily weather forecasts to local leaders via SMS and implementing a flood alert system in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior. He revealed that over 75% of Morocco’s wells are unauthorized and outlined plans to regulate this by installing digital meters to monitor underground water resources.
Omar Seghrouchni, President of the National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP), stressed the importance of data protection in the digital age. He stated that fostering a climate of trust is essential for the success of digital policies and emphasized the commission’s role in guiding data controllers and addressing citizens’ concerns.
The discussions highlighted Morocco’s commitment to integrating digital solutions across various sectors, positioning the nation as a leader in the region’s digital transformation.
