Morocco plans to launch a series of regional artificial intelligence hackathons to mobilize young talent and develop prototype solutions tailored to local priorities, Digital Transition Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni told parliament on Monday.
Speaking during a question session in the House of Representatives, Seghrouchni said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to position AI as a driver of inclusive development while strengthening legal tools to combat cybercrime, including online fraud, extortion and defamation.
She said Morocco improved its global AI government readiness score by 14 points in 2025, ranking 87th worldwide and eighth in the Middle East and North Africa, reflecting institutional and regulatory reforms.
The minister said her department is working to establish a dedicated directorate for AI and emerging technologies and to operationalize a regional Arab-African digital hub for AI and data science launched with UNDP support in 2025.
She also highlighted national training programs targeting children and youth, including initiatives reaching football academies and youth centers, and said a draft digital administration law includes provisions on data protection and AI governance.
