The European Union in Morocco has announced a call for proposals to support the reconstruction of areas affected by the Al Haouz earthquake. This initiative is part of the “European Support for the Integrated Program for the Reconstruction and General Upgrading of Disaster Areas (2024-2028),” which has an allocated budget of €5.7 million.
In a statement to Hespress FR, the EU delegation in Morocco emphasized that the program aims to ensure an inclusive and participatory approach to reconstruction while promoting sustainable recovery efforts.
The call for proposals consists of two primary components. The first focuses on preserving and enhancing vernacular construction heritage by utilizing local materials and traditional building techniques. Proposals should scientifically demonstrate the effectiveness of these traditional methods, showcasing their benefits to practitioners, administrators, and local communities.
The second component follows the “build back better, build back greener” principles, emphasizing nature-based solutions, community resilience, and the integration of local and traditional knowledge. This lot will also involve coordinating stakeholders in the reconstruction process and addressing potential conflicts related to rebuilding and economic recovery. Transparency, accountability, and information sharing are key requirements throughout the process.
Interested parties can access the full guidelines at EU Online Services. The deadline for submitting concept notes is Monday, November 4, 2024, at 12:00 PM Brussels time.
An online information session will be hosted by the European Union Delegation in Morocco on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 2:30 PM Rabat time. Organizations interested in attending must register by emailing the participant’s name to [email protected] by Monday, September 16, 2024.
