Monday 2 September 2024 - 14:30

Faouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, announced that the Ministry of Economy and Finance is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance its services and operations.

In response to a query from the Socialist Group about the ministry’s technological advancements, Lekjaa emphasized that AI is pivotal for driving economic and social progress. He highlighted that AI is improving the quality and efficiency of public services, boosting performance, and offering innovative solutions to challenges in areas such as border control and international trade regulation.

Lekjaa detailed how the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes is utilizing data analysis and machine learning algorithms for predictive analysis in customs clearance and fraud detection. The ministry is also testing a smart system designed to adapt to evolving fraud patterns.

Additionally, the General Tax Directorate is leveraging AI to support users through chatbots, combat tax fraud, and digitize tax filing processes. The technology facilitates remote access to services like obtaining administrative certificates and tracking tax status.

Lekjaa also pointed out several IT applications aimed at streamlining procedures for citizens and businesses. These include the ‘Badr’ system for customs clearance and tax declarations, the ‘Amlak’ system for managing state lands and real estate assets, and the ‘Jisr’ system, which handles human resources, property, and logistics services.

Furthermore, the ministry’s “zero paper” initiative, part of its 2022-2026 digital transformation plan, seeks to replace physical customs declarations with a digital system. This plan includes the development of the ‘eBudget’ system chatbot and the use of AI tools within the ‘Digital Workplace DB’ system for tasks such as content creation, summarizing, rephrasing, and translating texts.

Lekjaa concluded by noting that AI will enhance budgetary data analysis, underscoring the ministry’s growing reliance on AI for decision-making.
