Farmaraiders, a Barcelona-based humanitarian group, provided over 1,000 kilograms of crucial medical and pharmaceutical supplies to Moroccan communities in remote desert regions, distributing aid to local associations, schools, and health centers, according to Spanish news outlet La Vanguardia.
Founded in 2019 by Eric Menéndez and Guille Pascual, pharmacy and food science graduates from the University of Barcelona, Farmaraiders has involved students and alumni in its mission.
The project aims to improve the health and well-being of local communities while also challenging gender norms within the automotive industry.
The same source mentioned that Farmaraiders participants have also contributed to the project by creating tailored medical formulas to address the unique health challenges faced by these communities.
They have spearheaded initiatives to translate medication instructions into Arabic and French to ensure accessibility and understanding.
By collaborating with the Zaouit Amel’Kids association, including the provision of school first aid kits, and partnering with the local health delegation and the Spanish Society for Personalized Medicine (LASEMI), Farmaraiders said they aim to establish new avenues for healthcare cooperation across the entire ‘Errachidia health region.
La Vanguardia noted that Farmaraiders is set to challenge gender stereotypes in the automotive industry while advancing healthcare in the 2025 campaign.
The initiative is expected to assemble a team of 20 students and alumni from the Faculty of Pharmacy, who will transport over 3,500 kilograms of medical supplies across the region.
The same source mentioned that they would deliver essential aid by using 10 cars and two vans provided by UniRaid, a motor rally that spans an eight-day route through Morocco’s desert, retracing the iconic Paris-Dakar trail.
It added that this humanitarian effort will feature thirteen women, including students and faculty members, highlighting the critical role of women in this humanitarian endeavor.
