Five people have been arrested in connection with the dismantling of a hashish trafficking network between Morocco and Algeciras. The organization hid the drugs in the tires of vehicles carrying passengers, in order to give the appearance of normality.
The alleged ringleader was remanded in custody without bail. The Civil Guard in the Sebta enclave recently foiled a criminal group specializing in trafficking hashish from Morocco to Algeciras, using vehicles to conceal the narcotics. During this operation, five individuals were arrested, including the alleged leader of the network.
According to the Iberian press, on Monday Spanish law enforcement agencies raided a home in Sebta belonging to the alleged leader of this organization. The organization was involved in transporting hashish from Morocco to Algeciras, using cars and ferries linking the two shores.
The operation, called “Ruenas”, was coordinated by the GRS groups and the Sebta Judicial Police Organizational Unit, under the direction of Sebta Investigating Judge no. 6. The investigation was triggered after linking two interventions at the end of 2023 at the port of Sebta, where the group was hiding hashish in tires and calling in various drivers. To avoid suspicion, the organization recorded the driver’s name on the transport documents.
During transfers, several passengers, including women and minors, were often present to give an appearance of legitimacy during police checks. The quantities seized in the various vehicles associated with this group did not exceed 50 kilos, with at least three seizures confirmed and others under analysis.
As a result of the investigation, five people were arrested, including three men and two women. Further arrests of people involved in the network cannot be ruled out. The Sebta custody judge ordered provisional detention, without the possibility of bail, for the alleged head of the organization, a 50-year-old Sebta resident.
