17,000 families had benefited from the direct housing assistance program by July 15, including 44% women and 22% Moroccans living abroad (MRE), the head of government told the House of Representatives on Monday.
In response to a question during the monthly oral question session on “urbanization and housing policy and its impact on economic dynamics and spatial and social development”, Aziz Akhannouch revealed that 84,500 applications to benefit from the assistance had been submitted on the dedicated platform.
The total value of the homes acquired amounted to MAD 6.3 billion, with the State contributing MAD 1.3 billion, said the head of government, noting that “in parallel with this leap forward, the urban planning and housing sector has recorded positive indicators since the launch of this royal project.”
In this regard, Akhannouch pointed out that in the first quarter of the current year, the number of authorized projects rose by 16%, the added value of the building and public works sector by 2.5%, real estate loans by 1.5% and loans to real estate developers by 3.8%.
According to the Head of Government, the direct housing assistance program will facilitate access by low-income social categories and the middle class to decent housing that meets their daily needs.
Increasing the supply of housing will give a strong boost to the private sector, boost SMEs and create job opportunities, he stressed, noting that since its launch in early 2024, the direct housing assistance program “has been a great success, exceeding expectations and experiencing strong demand from Moroccans inside and outside the country, as evidenced by the positive balance of this program.”
