UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission warned that a tsunami measuring over one meter will hit the Mediterranean in the next 30 years, with 100% certainty.
According to a report by Spanish newspaper La Razon, the primary danger zone is the Averroes fault located beneath the Alboran Sea, nearly halfway between the Málaga coast and North Africa.
An earthquake from this fault could generate six-meter-high waves, reaching the Spanish coastline in as little as 21 minutes. In an ideal scenario, residents along the coast would have only 35 minutes to evacuate to safer, inland areas.
