Leila Benali, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, underscored the significance of King Mohammed VI’s Atlantic Initiative during the “Morocco Today” Forum in Dakhla.
She described it as a “bridge between continents” with the potential to link Africa, Europe, and America.
Benali highlighted the initiative’s ability to bolster Africa’s resilience against various challenges, including economic hardships, security threats, and climate change.
Additionally, it could foster development in southern Morocco and transform the Atlantic coast into a center for African integration.
The initiative aims to leverage Africa’s abundant resources to drive continental transformation and improve global well-being.
Benali stressed that Morocco is firmly committed to realizing this vision through investments in crucial infrastructure projects like roads, airports, railways, and energy facilities.
The minister said that strengthening energy cooperation with Sahel countries is another key aspect of the plan, as Morocco is accelerating its own transition to clean energy, a strategic choice championed by the King for the past fifteen years.
Despite acknowledging Africa’s current struggles, including widespread energy poverty and economic instability, Benali emphasized Morocco’s dedication to supporting sustainable development.
