A Spanish national who was on the run for almost two years has now been arrested by the National Spanish Police for illegal transportation of migrants from Morocco’s Nador province to the Spanish enclave, Melilla.

A police spokesperson said that the individual had been a fugitive since 2022.

His identity was recognized by passport control at the Melilla crossing, according to Europa Press, a Spanish news agency.

The agency accentuated that the arrested individual, along with another –who had already been investigated and is currently jailed for another crime – was transporting a boat used for human smuggling from a warehouse near the airport to a repair shop.

These two were involved in a broader network of illegal migration, which has been under investigation since the beginning of 2022.

Many members of this network have been arrested as part of an operation named “Lanzadera”, the same source indicated.
