Residents of Casablanca are demanding more public toilets, saying the current lack of facilities is a serious problem for both residents and visitors.
Many people are forced to use restrooms in cafes, which is particularly challenging for the elderly and those with medical conditions. With Casablanca slated to host major international events, including the Africa Cup of Nations, the pressure is on to address the shortage.
The city previously approved a plan for 60 new public toilets to be built by local development company “Casablanca Environment,” but so far, no progress has been made.
Moulay Ahmed Afilal, Deputy Mayor of Casablanca, stated that work on public toilets is underway in several districts. He confirmed that the project to construct 60 public facilities has been initiated, with more planned for the future.
Afilal emphasized that the distribution of these toilets across different districts is based on recommendations from local officials to ensure fairness and address the needs of each area. A special committee has been formed to determine the most suitable locations for the new restrooms.
