The agreement signed with U.S. tech company Oracle for the expansion of its activities in Morocco consolidates the Kingdom’s positioning as a hub for investment and innovation in the technology sector, said Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Ghita Mezzour.
In an interview with MAP on the occasion of the signing Thursday in San Francisco of this agreement with Oracle CEO, Safra Catz, the Moroccan official recalled that the strategic expansion in Morocco of the U.S company, which is among the ten largest tech groups in the world, will lead to the creation of Oracle’s first research and development center in Africa and the eighth of its kind worldwide.
The center, which currently operates with a reduced team in Casablanca, will be growing, thanks to this agreement, its local workforce to 1,000 information technology professionals who will be at the forefront of the design and development of innovative solutions in the areas of artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing and cybersecurity.
These solutions will be deployed on a global scale, thus strengthening Morocco’s positioning as a regional digital hub, she pointed out.
Ghita Mezzour who had, during her working visit to San Francisco, a series of meetings with U.S. companies, stressed that the strengthening of cooperation with the major stakeholders in the technology sector consolidates Morocco’s positioning as an attractive hub for foreign investments and a home for skills in the area of digital solutions.
The minister underlined the importance of promoting such partnerships with a view to increasing the Kingdom’s contribution to digital value chains at the international level, and ensuring the success of the “Maroc Digital 2030” Strategy.
As part of her visit to the U.S. metropolis, Ms. Mezzour had a meeting with OpenAI, world leader in the development of artificial intelligence.
Talks focused on opportunities for collaboration in the sectors of research and innovation in Morocco, as well as the means to develop an artificial intelligence system in line with the specificities of Moroccan society.
With the Mubadala international investment fund, the minister said she discussed the financing of startups, highlighting Morocco’s assets and the large prospects offered in this area.
The signing ceremony of the agreement inked with Oracle was attended by Mohcine Jazouli, Minister in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, and Ali Seddiki, General Director of the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE).
