Major players within the BRICS economic bloc have reportedly thwarted an attempt by South Africa to include the Western Sahara issue on the agenda of a recent meeting held in Moscow.
The gathering, which took place in late April, brought together deputy foreign ministers and special envoys from BRICS nations to discuss a range of topics, including the Palestinian and Sudanese situations.
According to well-informed sources and Egyptian media outlets, several BRICS members, notably Russia, opposed a proposal by South Africa’s deputy foreign minister to introduce the Western Sahara conflict into the discussions.
This move was seen as an attempt to draw the bloc into a complex and contentious issue, further politicizing the BRICS agenda.
