Morocco’s women’s national team reached the semifinals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday after defeating South Africa 2-1 in the quarterfinals at Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
Morocco took the lead in the 31st minute through Sakina Ouzraoui, who converted a decisive pass from Hanan Ait El Haj to put the Atlas Lionesses ahead.
The hosts maintained control for much of the first half, imposing their style of play and limiting South Africa’s opportunities as they went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Morocco continued to press after the restart and doubled its advantage in the 52nd minute when Hanan Ait El Haj converted from the penalty spot.
South Africa responded in the 67th minute, with Thembi Kgatlana pulling one back to reduce the deficit.
Morocco held on through the closing stages to secure a place in the last four of the continental tournament.
The Atlas Lionesses will face the winner of the quarterfinal between Cameroon and Nigeria in the semifinals as they continue their bid to reach the tournament final and compete for the continental title.
