The Iberian news outlet Huelva Informacion revealed a significant increase in the presence of Moroccan women in the province of Huelva, Spain, surging by an impressive 948% over the past two decades.

The number of Moroccan women, according to the same source, rose from 753 in 2003 to 7,892 in 2022.

The number of Moroccan men also experienced substantial growth during this period, climbing from 2,344 in 2003 to 8,301, marking an increase of 254%.

The overall Moroccan population registered in Huelva has surged to 16,193, up from 3,097. This represents a significant shift from comprising just 0.65% of the province’s total population of 472,446 to now exceeding 3%, reflecting a growth of 422.8%, according to the same source.

In the capital of the province, the Moroccan population has tripled in the past two decades, going from 579 registered individuals to the current 1603, despite a general population decrease.

Yet, the Ibernian news outlet mentioned that this fraction represents only 1.13%, well below the provincial average of 3% and 3.77% in the south as a whole.

Regarding Punta Umbría, the number of registered individuals saw, however, a slight increase from 61 to 157 during the same period, representing 0.9% of the province’s population. Similarly, Aljaraque experienced a slight uptick in population from 21 to 58, making up just 0.2% of the total.

Lucena del Puerto currently stands as the Huelva municipality with the highest percentage of Moroccan population among its residents, jumping from 2.3% in 2003 to 15% in 2022. Following closely, Moguer witnessed a significant surge in the number of Moroccans from 2.5% to 12.8% over 20 years.

Other cities also experienced notable increases, such as Cartaya (from 1.9% to 9.8%), Palos de la Frontera (from 2.9% to 7.7%), Bonares (from 3.2% to 5.9%), Almonte (from 0.3% to 5.8%), and San Juan del Puerto (from 0.3% to 5.8%), among others.
