The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Fez proceeded with the trial of a rapper on Monday whose song stirred widespread controversy after several NGOs lodged complaints against him.

Following these complaints, the rapper has been detained in Bourkaiz prison, and granted time until April 15th to prepare his defense.

Charges brought forth by the Public Prosecutor’s Office allege that the approximately 30-year-old defendant incited minors under 18 to engage in prostitution or solicitation.

The rapper also faces accusations of using electronic platforms to encourage criminal activities or misdemeanors in a manner that meets the criteria of “publicity and participation.”

The song in question was released in February on YouTube and has drawn widespread condemnation, with many asserting that it glorified the exploitation of minors and undermined the innocence of childhood.

Despite this backlash, the song rapidly amassed over 4 million views, propelling NGOs specializing in child protection to swiftly respond to the controversy.

Don’t Touch My Child association expressed deep concern over the proliferation of similar content across various YouTube and social media platforms.

The association said that such content propagated messages advocating for the sexual abuse of minors.

The NGO expressed concern over the emergence of songs that disregard both artistic and ethical standards.

These songs are being used as channels for disseminating alarming messages, including explicit endorsements of sexual exploitation and assault against minors, facilitated by their widespread accessibility.

Stressing the need for proactive measures, the association affirmed its commitment to shedding light on such songs and pursuing legal recourse against those promoting child exploitation and abuse through music.

The NGO also acknowledged the disconcerting reality that certain lyrics within these songs reflect and potentially perpetuate real-world instances of exploitation.

The organization urged concerned individuals to report any troubling video or song content on social media platforms that could endanger children or incite their exploitation.

On its part, the League of Hope for Moroccan Childhood urged the authorities to take immediate action to investigate the widespread dissemination of this video.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the NGO emphasized the importance of preserving digital security and upholding public morals and ethics.

The statement called upon regulatory bodies to swiftly intervene to halt the distribution of this content, which poses significant threats to young people’s mental and physical well-being and contributes to the erosion of moral values.

The NGO has also encouraged families and social development institutions to remain vigilant in protecting future generations from exposure to inappropriate digital content.
