Carmen Morte-Gómez, the head of the Council of Europe’s Office in Morocco, highlighted the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the fight against women’s discrimination and the promotion of gender equality during an event organized on Friday in Rabat.

Speaking at a study day held on the occasion of March 8, Morte-Gómez emphasized the need to leverage the power of AI to identify and combat biases, dismantle harmful stereotypes, and foster inclusive representations and narratives in all aspects of public life.

“Given the growing importance of artificial intelligence in our lives, we want to celebrate this day by calling for the harnessing of the technology’s potential to combat gender inequality,” said Morte-Gómez.

The Council of Europe official commended the special attention given by HM King Mohammed VI to women’s issues. The importance of the matter was evident in the 2022 Throne Speech and the Royal Letter addressing the revision of the Family Code, directed to the Prime Minister last September.

In her address, Morte-Gómez urged society to tap into AI’s capabilities to advance the cause of women and create a more inclusive environment. The focus on leveraging technological advancements aligns with global efforts to address gender disparities and empower women.

Women’s rights expert Zhour El Hor also spoke at the event, emphasizing that the occasion served as an opportunity to recognize the achievements of Moroccan women.

El Hor highlighted the contributions of women in political and civil spheres, noting that their presence and struggle have enriched society’s progressive development.

The event underscored the intersection of technology and gender equality, urging stakeholders to actively participate in using AI as a tool for positive change.
