The National Office for Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSA) swiftly responded to reports claiming Morocco continues using the banned pesticide “Thiacloprid.” This clarification comes after the French Ministry of Agriculture prohibited the import of fruits and vegetables treated with this harmful substance.

ONSA issued a statement confirming that Morocco prohibited the use of thiacloprid as early as 2021. Prior to the ban, only two products containing the pesticide were authorized in the country, but their licenses were revoked on March 26, 2021.

This action is part of ONSA’s ongoing commitment to food safety. Since 2018, the agency has withdrawn a total of 56 active ingredients and restricted the use of 13 additional substances. Additionally, 386 products have been banned for use in Morocco.
