Local authorities in Casablanca, in coordination with relevant agencies, have launched a series of inspections targeting commercial outlets and food markets as the city prepares for the upcoming month of Ramadan. The campaigns aim to ensure market supply and enforce health and safety standards, officials said.
Authorities, acting on directives from the provincial administration, began widespread checks on food retailers, large commercial markets, and storage warehouses. The inspections, which started in recent days, have focused particularly on areas known for high consumer activity, including the popular Derb Omar district.
The monitoring committees are intensifying their efforts during a period that typically sees a significant rise in consumption, with officials aiming to curb any attempts at fraud, hoarding, or price manipulation. Authorities said they issued warnings to traders to comply with existing regulations and avoid actions that could harm consumer health.
During the inspections, officials have been checking product expiration dates, storage conditions, adherence to posted prices, and hygiene standards within stores and storage facilities. Sources told Hespress that authorities issued official reports against several outlets following recent rounds of checks, and emphasized that violations affecting consumer health will be met with strict measures.
The inspections come amid growing public demand for action to control rising prices and ensure the quality of goods during the holy month. Markets in Morocco’s economic capital, including Derb Omar and Derb Mila, are already preparing to stock up on essential food items and products linked to traditional Ramadan consumption.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry said that national supplies of basic goods remain stable and reassuring, with sufficient reserves to meet consumer needs during Ramadan and the following months.
It’s really sad to see our Senegalese brothers be used by the Algerian regime to defame the image of Morocco. Our beloved country has succeeded in organising the best Africa Cup ever. We are all ready to defend our nation against enemies.
