The Amsterdam District Court has sentenced Dutch kingpin Ridouan Taghi to life in prision on Tuesday, alongside accomplices Saïd R. and Mario R for a series of murders committed between 2015 and 2017.
After a trial of almost six years and 142 session days, Dutch news outlet NOS reports that today’s sentence revolves around a long prosecution against the drug traffickers, which involves six murders committed between 2015 and 2017, four attempted murders and plans for more homicides.
17 suspects are facing imprisonement in the now-famous Marengo trial, with Ridouan Taghi as the main suspect.
The prosecution had demanded life imprisonment against Taghi, Saïd R., Mohamed R., Mario R., Mao R. and Achraf B., according to the same source.
Achraf B. faces more than 29 years in prison. Mohamed R. receives 27 years and Mao R. 15 years.
According to NOS, star witness Nabil B.’s testimony before the judge helped seal Taghi’s fate, as he received a 10 year prison sentence, a substantial reduction in exchange for testifying against the kingpin.
The same media source highlighted that murders continued during the trial, as three murders were committed during the hearing, which are generally assumed to be related to the statements of the main witness, Nabil B.
A week after he was announced as the main witness, Nabil B.’s brother was shot dead, and in September 2019, his lawyer Dirk Wiersum was murdered, and in the summer of 2021 Peter R. de Vries, a close friend of his, was also shot dead.
It should be noted that Redouane Taghi, who was arrested in December 2019 in Dubai, is considered the mastermind of the memorable murder of a young Moroccan man in the La Créme cafe, which shook Marrakesh on November 2, 2017.
